Lake Manyara National Park
Tanzania
-
A Microcosm of African Wonder
A “biosphere reserve” that packs five distinct ecosystems into one relatively small area. It’s a liquid landscape—nearly two-thirds of the park is covered by the lake itself. From the moment you enter, you leave the dry savannah behind and enter a tropical twilight of ancient mahogany and sausage trees, fed by underground springs that keep the park emerald-green all year round.

What to expect
-
The Arboreal Acrobatics: This is the world headquarters for tree-climbing lions. Unlike their cousins elsewhere, the lions here have a peculiar habit of spending their afternoons draped over the sturdy branches of acacia trees. Whether they’re escaping the heat or the biting flies, seeing a 400-pound apex predator napping 10 meters above the ground is a sight you won’t forget.
-
The Pink Fringe: From a distance, the shoreline looks like it’s glowing. As you get closer, the “glow” dissolves into hundreds of thousands of Lesser Flamingos, forming a vibrating pink ribbon across the alkaline waters.
-
The Baboon Parliament: Manyara is home to some of the largest baboon troops in Africa. Expect to be greeted by “roadblocks” of playful primates, while blue monkeys and Sykes’ monkeys peer down from the canopy.
-
The Gentle Giants: The park supports a high density of elephants. Because of the dense forest, your encounters here are often sudden and intimate—turning a corner to find a matriarch grazing just feet from your vehicle

Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge
Lake Manyara Tortilis Camp
&Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge
The pinnacle of luxury. These are sophisticated treehouse suites cradled in the boughs of an ancient mahogany forest. It is the only lodge located inside the park’s southern wilderness.
Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge
Perched on the very edge of the Mto wa Mbu escarpment. The infinity pool here offers a “bird’s-eye” view of the entire lake and the floor of the Rift Valley
Lake Manyara Tortilis Camp
A boutique glamping experience that places you right at the base of the escarpment, where the sounds of the African night are your only playlist.

-
The Treetop Walkway: Step onto Tanzania’s first canopy walk. This 370-meter suspension bridge takes you 18 meters into the air, allowing you to walk among the birds and monkeys for a perspective few safari-goers ever get.
-
The Night Safari: Manyara is one of the few places in Tanzania where you can explore after dark. Under the glow of a spotlight, the forest transforms. You’ll hunt for the glowing eyes of porcupines, genets, civets, and the elusive aardvark.
-
Canoeing the Soda Lake: (When water levels permit). Paddle silently past hippos and flamingos, experiencing the park from the water line rather than the dusty trail.
-
The Mto wa Mbu Cultural Tour: Take a break from the wild to visit the nearby village. Known for its 120 different tribes, you can explore the colorful markets, take a banana-beer brewing tour, or cycle through the local rice paddies.
